Mellieha’s history dates back to around 3000 BC when the town was first inhabited during the Neolithic period. Malta’s cultural heritage represents a nuanced malgamation of diverse traditions having been influenced by Phoenician, Arab and Roman rule over the course of time.

The project commissioned a Mellieha native, Debbie Bonello, to take us through the streets of Mellieha through her oil on canvas painting.

Process
Upon completion, the painting was photographed and digitised by Maltese photographer Matthew Mirabelli and minted as an NFT. A bonfire ceremony was held, where the original painting, its sketches and the flash storage of the JPEG file were burnt and destroyed permanently. The NFT is the sole version of the artwork.
